Apprentice Carpenters

Main Functions:

To work in a team environment under the direction and guidance of the Foreman or Superintendent, carpenters provide the day to day carpentry work required on concrete scope construction projects ensuring work tasks are performed safely in accordance with OH & S legislation and company policies, while ensuring work is performed with a high level of quality and timeliness. 



Constructing, fabricating and installing curb, sidewalk, footing, grade beam, wall, column, stair, slab and suspended slab forms in accordance with site specific requirements and job scope.
Operating hand tools, power actuated tools as required to perform tasks including inspecting and ensuring proper, safe use.
Installing heating/hoarding, temporary fencing, guardrails, handrails and barriers as required.
Participating in daily tool-box talks.
Reviewing and preparing daily Field Level Hazard Assessments.
Participating in weekly safety meetings.
Ensuring proper Personal Protective Equipment is used for all tasks.
Advising supervision of unsafe conditions or acts that may be a hazard or danger to self and other workers.
Reading blueprints and/or getting instructions from supervision.
Preparing layout including selecting materials, planning sequences and methods of work.
Installing shoring.
Removing/stripping forms.
Ensuring work areas are kept clean and free of hazards.
Ensuring tools and equipment are returned to job boxes and tool cribs.
Reporting all incidents, “near miss” incidents including damage/non-damage, injury/non-injury incidents.
Reviewing and participating in the preparation of safe work practices/procedures as required.
Other tasks and duties as required on the jobsite.


Working Conditions:

Work weeks are 5 days, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day 40 hours per week regular plus overtime as required, including work on Saturdays as required by sites.
Work day starts at 07:00am
Two paid 15 minutes breaks and one ½ hour unpaid lunch break per day.
Exposure to cold/hot weather.  Appropriate dress required for weather conditions.
Exposure to noise, dust, pollution.
Exposure to hazards such as heights, power tools, slips, falls, falling objects, sharp hand tools.
Ability to stand, crouch and kneel for long periods of time.
Manual dexterity.
Ability to lift between 11 and 25 kg.

Educational Requirements:

Grade 10
Apprenticeship in accordance with classification for ticketed tradesmen
